MacMail blackout

A new problem with MacMail:



Last week, black strips began appearing over some incoming mail in the 'From' , 'Subject' 'Date Received' window. How can I get rid of those blackouts?

    Never mind. Those blackout strips have something to do with "Organize by thread"; I've never used it; however, somehow, it was turned on - ????? I turned it off and the black strips went bye-bye.

    The blackouts are back and this time, they can't be eliminated.



    Any suggestions?
