I love this band! They won a Grammy recently for the Malcom in the Middle theme and it's getting them some of their best publicity since the Flood hits.

The first time is saw them they were hosting a VERY early Nickelodeon video countdown show singing "The sun is a mass of incandescent gas, a giant nuclear furnace..."

I've been hooked ever since!

Catchy, catchy tunes, smart-goofy lyrics (Where your eyes don't go/a filthy scarecrow waves its broomstick arms

and does a parody of each unconscious thing you do/

When you turn to look its gone but behind your back it's wearing your confused expression /where your eyes dont go) and they were also giving music away on the internet way before it was fashionable.

Any other fans of John and John out there?

Jeff

The first TMBG songs I heard were Istanbul and Particle Man.

I laughed my ass off and I've been a fan since.

I haven't heard any of their stuff in a while. Particle Man is one of my favorites. Hmm, where did I put that CD....

MiM is one of my favorite shows, in part due to their scores for the show. I saw an interview by them where they talked about doing the music for the show and why they stopped. They said they enjoyed doing it, but it was just too time-consuming to score a show. Too bad. Still a great show.

    From "Birdhouse in Your Soul"

    "There's a picture opposite me

    of my primitive ancestry

which stood on rocky shores and

    Kept the beaches shipwreck free

Though I respect that a lot

I'd be fired if that were my job

    After killing Jason off and

    countless screaming Argonauts..."

I'll quit, I could post this stuff all night!

I figured at least a few people on the boards would dig TMBG, we Mac fanatics being geeks and all.

Way back when I was a college student I was on the concert committee and we put them on. It was a good show. I liked when they had dial a song. You could call up a number and they basically had an answering machine that played a new song every day.

Yah, I'm a big fan as I've come to realize. I go through my TMBG stages, then back out. In the process I've acquired most of the off-the-shelf stuff that's out there. I just bought NO a month or so back. I haven't ingested that album yet though, not in a TMBG phase right now.

The dial-a-song service is down right now (or it WAS), the old machine they were using had a "meltdown" and they're looking for replacement parts. Really they should be able to do it digitally, or hire some bigger telecom type company to do it....but I get the feeling they like the control they get with their old setup. I really wanted to call it up JUST when it broke down. I hope they get it working again.

Anybody who doesn't know should go here, armed with the latest version of Flash:

    then try here:

Both VERY fun sites. MY kudos go out to their web-design team~

TMBG was written up in the August 12 issue of The New Yorker, in an article by Michael Azerrad. Kind of a history and philosophy approach, with a note of relief that not all bands are just media hype. Nice photo too.

And guys who play the accordion are hot.

    I'm your only friend

    I'm not your only friend

but I'm a little glowing friend

but really I'm not actually your friend,

    but I am

Blue canary in the outlet by the light switch

    who watches over you

make a little birdhouse in your soul

"I built a little empire out of

    Some crazy garbage

Called the blood of the exploited working class.

    But they've overcome their shyness

And they're calling me Your Highness

    And the world screams

    'Kiss me, son of God!'"

    Must

    Okay, one last one...

    "Did a large procession

Wave their torches as my head fell in the basket

And was everybody dancing on the casket?

Now it's over I'm dead and I haven't done anything that I want

Or I'm still alive and there's nothing I want to do."

John and John have left the building!

    Or at least my iMac!

    :o zzzzzz
