i'm looking to pick up an amp and deck. the amp needs to put out at least 275W at 4 ohms, and for the deck i'd just like something with a good Aux. in for my iPod.

i used to follow this stuff almost a decade ago, but haven't been into it for a while. anyone here have any first hand experience, products they'd recommend of suggest i stay away from?

As for the Deck, I would recommend the Pioneer P440, or 4400, and the IP bus adaptor, that allows you to hook an auxilary item into it. The head unit is $179, and the adaptor is $59. I have had just about every brand of Head unit, and have found that Pioneer is the best as far as price, and functionality. Last I checked, the cheapest Alpine unit (Alpine is as good as pioneer as far as quality) that has Aux inputs is 379, so it would be far cheaper and just as good to get the Pioneer.

As for amp recommendation, the Pheonix Gold T500.2 is an awesome amp and sells for $259, or for a more inexpensive, but comparable amp, the Kenwood 629 is only $169, but doesn't quite put out it's rated power like the PG does.

If you are looking for a good place to purchase the equipment online, and for some good information on car audio, try sounddomain.com . They have the best prices usually, and I have had good experiences with them. However since you are somewhat new to car audio, it might be a good idea to purchase at a local retailer since they will usually give you free installation on the equipment you purchase from them. BTW: Stay away from Best Buy!

well, i'm not exactly new, just returning. i've installed my own amps and decks, as well as friends, they just heppened to be about 7 years ago now. i haven't kept up with any changes that might have occurred since then. not sure if the same companies are still making the same quality products. thanks for the advice!

anyone else got info out there?
