Someone here - and I have it narrowed to about four, maybe five, people - has done quite a cute little trick on me.
Starting 6-7 days ago, my main e-mail account [email protected] started receiving MASSIVE amounts of porn spam.
In the year-and-a-half I've had my cox.net account through my cable company, I've NEVER received any spam PERIOD to it. Much less this porn stuff.
I'VE not given that e-mail address to anyone or filled it in anywhere questionable.
Recent events, culminating in a bit of acrimony and "back-and-forth" amongst myself and a few others have honestly made me wonder. I'm VERY careful about my e-mail. Who has it, who gets it, where I use it, etc.
This is the ONLY place that's halfway public that my e-mail is clearly and easily viewed.
Like I said, the timing is something I can't discount or ignore either. I NEVER got one piece of spam to that account (that's how careful I was).
And now this? Just a little too suspicious...
If I don't respond to retarded posts and whiny PMs, do you people take my e-mail and go enter it in to every xxxorgyslut.com site you can find? For giggles and "that'll show him!" tactics?
As much as some of you people get on my nerves (and you do), fact is I'd never stoop to that. I wouldn't go monkeying around with your personal stuff or tweaking your non-AI-oriented existence.

I have four e-mail addresses - a "public" company address, a private company address, a home address, and my mac.com address.
So far I've managed to keep them all spam free (With the exception of Apple spam), so I'll put up with the Hotmail crap for now.

never use an account publicly visible in forums. anywhere.
there are also those email 'fishing' engines. they go around the web and get [email protected] so if you REALLY REALLY have to publicly display your email, use something crap like hotmail or the accounts you use for the registrations and other... NOT your work address. or, add those classic antispam munging stuff... or write it manually like user at domain dot com. if it's a person reading that.. he gets the point (unless really stupid one) .. and you risk less spam.
my favorite email account has died because of spam. it has ended to those !£$%&/( ££%$$$ !!!!! spam lists so i get as many "women agree.. size matters.." "lowen your debits.." etc as i'd like to download.
after fighting more than ehough... i had to decide the only thing i can do is quit using that address.
never publicly display any of your important email addresses in any public board ... and never ues those "click here to remove"
change your address if you can
or put a porno dictionaryto your spam filters
