Cats and watermelons

I've seen a few things mentioning cats and watermelons in people's signatures... "My cat is watermelonesque" or "My cat ate my watermelon."

Huh? I must have missed something... is it some sort of AI in-joke?

It's an old tradition. I remember the initial thread, but I can't for the life of me tell you what it means.

Anyway it is amazing what you can learn from google. It seems that there is a movie Rubin and Ed starring that guy who played George McFly in Back to the Future. Apparently that movie is the origin of said line as linked above. Additionally it seems that a subsequent song was written by JackOffJill called My Cat which also features this line. AFAICT the movie is the original source though.
