Go Mike! When did public schools become corporate marketing departments, anyway?

Old news man, but still cool. Wonder what his real objective was, probably thought that what his school was doing was stupid, which is true. Its amazing how biased our education system is and how muh advertising goes on inside. Luckily i go to an alternative school thats still public, so I avoid all of that. Some textbooks at the big highschool in our town have ****ing advertisements in them. its so gross.

I mean - great being rebellious and all, but what did the kid do? he rebelled against one corporation with the logo of another... if that is rebellion - something is wrong.

Everything about this story is stupid. The kid, Coke, Pepsi, schools, commercialism, pseudo-rebellion, the suspension. Pretty lame, all in all, yet still somewhat entertaining.

At my PUBLIC HS, we were not allowed to have coke or pepsi. They didn't sell it, and we were not allowed to bring it.Additionally, we were not allowed to wear corporate logo type merchandise. We also were not allowed to bring in lunches with anything other than a plain paper bag. Meaning, no McD's bags, and the like. I was bold and ordered a pizza delivered. They withheld my diploma and were contemplating not allowing me to be in the graduation ceremony. I got my diploma handed to me AFTER the ceremony, though.

    Tough school, huh?

But I appreciate 'some' of it now. I also never wore shorts, or open toed shoes in all my school years, either.

For a public (government funded I'm guessing?) school that seems a bit harsh...although it probably would to me, coming from a small town (~2500.)

So Much for freedom of speech

That a school forbids clothing bearing a commercial name seems a bit unreasonable to me, despite my having a deep dislike for the sheer vulgarity of wearing advertisements. But a public school engaging in advertising activities such as a ?Coca-Cola rally? is far beyond unreasonable. It's the first time I hear of such things happening outside of bad science-fiction stories.

Wearing a ?Pepsi? shirt was certainly a lame retort. Now, a more direct ?Coca-Cola sux!? shirt would have been more appropriate.
