Isn't it the darndest thing? Apparently its a rare genetic thing but it makes his front paws look huge. Anyone ever see this before? I think they are called polydactl.

I never get my cats declawed. They are outside/inside cats so I feel they need the protection when out on the prowl.

I do have a digital camera but no place online to store them. If you do a search in google for polydactl you will find pictures of other cats with this (mutation?, deformity?, gift? I prefer to call it abnormality) condition. I think it's cool. Looks like a human hand.

I will try and find a spot to place my pics tonight.

i think it's more of a mutation if anything. Some have 7 toes up front and 6 in the back. the world record is 25 toes total for a cat (7+7+5+6). And they are prone to breakage also. The purpose of evolution is to make one self better.

Well, the cat's in <a href="http://www.westcoastcat.com/scratchins/hemingway.html"; target="_blank">good company</a>. Seems Ernest Hemingway had a breed of cat that had the same thing. And his house/museum has 50 kitties to prove it. Very cool cats. <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

you know what's funny, most of the US people here have seen it, but the Euro people are unaware of the phenomena. Until I read that this condition is very rare in Europe because hundreds of years ago cats with this condition were considered evil and were killed, while in America they were considered lucky and thrived. Maybe they can make a comeback!

I'm hoping those thumbs aren't opposable; we may just be seeing the end of humanity as the dominant species...

That and, you know, the fact that it's extremely cruel.

True, but I do neuter them. Declawing is a humiliating act to a cat. It would be like detoothing a dog.

I haven't seen this particular condition, but one of my really good friends has two cats who have what I would best describe as two paws on the front legs. There are the normal paws, with the normal amount of toes, and then, about half and inch up the leg, there are 3 or 4 more toes growing in a little paw configuration. Strange, but cute.
