iMac and blue screen for 10 min on startup

Hi Folks,

I have a ~Oct '10 27" iMac (i7, 8GB, 2TB drive, no SSD, 5750) that when booting gets past the gray screen, gets to the blue screen that should display briefly prior to loading the desktop, and hangs there for ~10 or so minutes prior to loading the desktop. Following this, everything appears to work ok. An OS reinstall does not fix the issue, and it happens also when booting from the CD. Another data point is that sometimes I hear what sounds like an electrical humming sound when using the magic mouse touch surface to scroll within an application.

Some cursory internets research points to a possible issue with the graphics card, and my next step is to take the iMac into an Apple retail store to have them spend some time diagnosing and hopefully fixing the issue. However, I was wondering if any of you have experienced and/or heard of this issue and knew of a simple solution to try.

Thanks!

Start up holding down command-v and see if it hangs at any particular part.
