The Time is at Hand
okay, "What time is it?" i'd say all of you (english speakers) have heard the expression. what the fvck is "it" in that sentence. "what time is [what?]?" what is the [it] supposed to refer to? Is there some blcok of earth or interstellar matter that all time relates to? The more i thik of the question, the bigger it seems to get.

we americans are lazy and often don't finish a sentence when we think we can save a word or two and still be understood....g

I'd say you Americans take your laziness further than that, you even miss letters out of words if you think they will still be understood, especially 'u' (humour, harbour, colour, honour etc).
the short answer: English makes no sense. Do not attempt to make sense of it, or your head will explode.
