Shania vs Faith
A long time ago people here compare the young pop stars (Britney vs Christina.....and now J.Lo vs someone or whatever). I think I should do some vs thing on the more mature chicks
Shania Twain and Faith Hill
Both over 30
Both are married
Both have kids (Shania 1 , Faith 3)
Both are nice looking
Both are the top female country singers
Both are now getting out of the pure country music category. Now more like pop/rock singers
The only thing not the same is that Shania is Canadian while Faith is American (Canada vs US debate
)
I have their latest albums. They are both actually in pretty high production qualities. And have NO country beats at all....like them
Since they both are nice I find it hard to pick which one is better......that really is depending on the taste of the person himself.....

If you look at the question in terms of Shania's and Faith's latest singles, Shania wins hands down. "I'm gonna getcha good!" is at least "a song I can sing in my own company" as Bono once sang. "Cry" even more emphasizes Faith's breathy voice while it lacks anything redeemable besides the message of not holding in one's emotions. I don't know, Faith- you're losing it.
At the very least, she had the good sense to fall in love and marry Mutt Lange, so...
But neither one are my cup of tea, musically or otherwise.
Faith just comes across really cold and shrill and I've seen some interviews with her and I've gone "ewww...not very likable at all...".
Shania is cute, but (like lots of women), she's way more attractive in a natural, non-made-up setting, just being "natural". When she's all tarted-up and stuff, I don't dig it. Too heavy on the "trying to be a sexpot" thing.
Ugh.
And Shania does, between the two, have the better, more pleasing voice.
I have friends who work in writing and publishing and assist in studios in Nashville and they all have a "Faith Hill story" or two.
And they aren't good. Apparently she's a bit of a raging diva and a terror to work for or with. Go figure.

And the whole neo country look and sound makes me want to puke. Where's Wanda Jackson when ya need her...

Sorry, Artman, you're wrong in applying the sound aspect to her latest album. Shania didn't have to go the Faith Hill country/pop crossover route because two cds come with her latest album. You're thinking, "ok, big deal," but one contains full-blown pop versions while the other contains pure country versions. What you're most likely hearing on Top 40 radio and TV is a pop song, not a cross-over, or "neo-country" song. Just turn the dial though and country stations should be playing the country version. Pretty innovative, huh? As far as music videos go, I don't know if she made two different versions for her song. A mandolin would sound really funny in that futuristic landscape of "I'm gonna getcha good!" music video...

Damn, start a Vancouver thread. I want to discuss it.

I think she has sex appeal. There's no trying. What you refer to is that she has more sex appeal when she's more down to earth looking. The home "chick" in sweats doesn't do it for me though.
But it kinda smacks of "straddle the line and cover all my bases".
I respect someone (like Ricky Skaggs) who just says "Hey, it's bluegrass and that's what I play".
I'll have to give Shania's CD a listen. I do dig the production and sounds on her CDs (again, look at who she's got for a husband and producer!!!).
Even on some of the pop things, there will still be a shimmering pedal steel or something "country" floating in the background.
I dig stuff like that, little sonic "treats" and artisty.
I figure anyone who can make Def Leppard sound good probably can work wonders on someone with a nice voice to begin with.
I think both are really attractive, but in different ways. Shania, I think is sexier. I see her and just want to throw her into bed.
Faith, on the other hand, is to me more what I'd call beautiful. I might actually want to spend time talking to her, going for a walk, doing the dinner thing...
And then throwing her into bed!

I think you're on to something here. I'm the kind of guy that places a lot of the attraction on personality, and Faith just looks like I could talk to, befriend, laugh with and **** the **** out of her. Go figure. I prefer brunettes too! Crazy.

Mutt Lange was DEF LEPPARD'S producer??? Holy shit... What a contrast between his latest work and earlier work.
I was watching a documentary/bio on Shania on CMT over the weekend and apparently when it became knowledge to Shania's record label that he (Mutt) and Shania were becoming friendly and that he'd probably be producing stuff for her, it raised more than a few eyebrows!
I could imagine!
He's British and had no country/Nashville experience. But he's a sonic master and divine twiddler of knobs apparently.
I'm sure Shania's record sales and immense popularity quickly shut up any naysayers on Music Row. She, like Garth and Reba, can pretty much - at this point - do whatever the hell she probably feels like doing.
Garth got to indulge in that whole stupid Chris Gaines "alter ego rocker" nonsense because he sold about 490 gazillion albums and made lots of people rich in the process.
"Yeah, let him do it...but his ass it cutting another country record immediately afterwards!"
