Can Apple split a single purchase transaction?
Hi,
I'm slightly confused with how charges have appeared on my credit card. I'm Indian and ordered an iPad and a smart cover for it yesterday. The consignment will be delivered to my sister in the US and I'll pick it up when I visit the US next month.
At the end of the order, I paid in a single transaction of $593.77 - 499 for the iPad and 39 for the cover. An Indian-currency transaction equivalent to $39 has appeared on my credit card today. Apple has also confirmed by email that the cover stands shipped and the iPad itself will ship on May 3.
There's still no sign of the transaction for $499, although the entire $593.77 should logically have been debited together.
Can Apple split the transaction in this manner, so that they debit the money for the iPad just before it's delivered? Is there a risk that my CC company will decline such a transaction?

They don't charge for an item before it ships. You see the charge for the cover as it's already shipped.
