MacUpdate newspeak

At MacUpdate they are plain lying now: e.g. they present software as 'shareware' (which is fully functional software that the user can ? but does NOT have to ? decide to reward with money), when it really is simple commercial software. In other words software you have to pay for in order to get it to function at all.

Case in point: All-Business-Documents for Mac 4.3, which MacUpdate describes as 'shareware', but won't work unless you buy it for $ 129,95...!

This is simply bait-and-switch. And therefore legally prosecutable.

Actually, MacUpdate lists the app accurately. If you download All Business Documents and launch the app, you can choose to register the app OR use it in demo mode.

Shareware is supposed to be fully functional without registration. An application in demo mode is a crippled application, i.e. not fully functional. "All Business Documents" c.s. is not shareware. It is crippleware. Sold under false pretenses by its author. And listed under false pretenses by MacUpdate.

    You're describing donationware, not shareware.

Donationware is a synonym for shareware. They are perfect substitutes. The concept of shareware originated in the eighties. Donationware was merely a 21st century update of the moniker. Not of the concept it labeled.

Exactly like the original 'backward shuffle' of the sixties was re-labeled 'moonwalk' when Whacko Jacko did it in the late seventies and eighties. Same thing, different name.

OK, so maybe they have it wrong. I don't get your furor saying it is lying or suggesting prosecution, I think you're over reaching here. Does MU benefit from mis-listing it?

Yes: shareware attracts visitors, visitors attract advertisers.
