I don't like Egg Nog...the drink...or the forum
I go against the flow every Christmas by never drinking egg nog at my house. I don't like it. Maybe it's the fact that it usually has too much nutmeg or something. I just don't like it.
And I'm glad the forum is going.
But I'm wondering...who else goes against the "holiday norms?" It may be that you actually LIKE fruit cake, or tell your kids there's no Santa, or don't ever stay up New Year's Eve for the ball to drop.
And I'm glad the forum is going.

I have watched so many people make themselves miserable trying to match some movie version of holiday bliss that I wouldn't mind if they not only chucked about half the holiday traditions but half the holidays themselves.
My wife and I don't raise our children with the belief of Santa Claus. Our oldest is only three years old. He is definately getting to the point where he absorbs plenty of ideas not only from us but from television and other sources (children) as well.
He was awake on Christmas Eve when we came and set the remaining presents out under the tree. (We had let him open Grandma and Grandpa's but our gifts for each other were for Christmas morning)
For those who think I am a spoil-sport, he WATCHED us place them out, then promptly said, "Look mommy, Santa brought presents"
So... there it is...
A tradition I don't mind trying to bring back is caroling. My best Christmas memories were some friends and I getting together a little brass quartet and going out caroling with our instruments.
In college we would wander down Ocean Blvd in Long Beach (more afluent neighborhood than we lived in) We would pick up some cookies, some cash (tips) and had been given several shots of very enjoyable liquor (usually schnapps of various flavors)
The amount of cash was usually just enough to help continue the party. (About $40-50 or so)
We would take this some brass groups and also play several hospitals each year. The appreciation and raised spirits of those who had every reason to be in bad moods always put the holiday in proper perspective for me.
So there you go... some I would dump and a couple I would keep.
