Help with Syncing Email required

Help!!!!.... I am trying to sync email between my macbook pro & iphone 4. I followed instructions as best as I can with mobileme but I can't seem to get read or deleted emails on my mac to show as read/deleted on my phone. Email accounts are POP and mac is running OS X Version 10.6.7 Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Don't use POP. Try to use IMAP on both your macbook and iphone.
