>>But the year of the horse was sure a bad day at the races
No luck at Happy Valley then? Nor me. I lost money on every race when I was there in October. the stadium puts every UK racetrack to shame tho
(I suspect your comment was a bit more general than my interpretation! would be interested to discuss Tung Chee Hwa and HK politics in general. but another time).
i've seen quite a few boston people on the board-- anyone know what/when the celebrations will be here? chinese new year is my favorite holiday, but i've never seen the parade out here. i wish i had money to go to new york to see their parade... damn it!
I'm stuck in Rome away from all my family so I didn't celebrate it much but thankfully we have a satellite reciever so I watched the new years programme.
It wasn't great, but gave me back the feeling of being a Chinese.
I'd like to know how you all celebrated New Year!

After my renunion dinner, I went for the Jackie Chan Movie - Shanghai Knights and then took a walk in my country's Chinatown. It was a happy night with plenty of New Year atmosphere!!
So how's Italy?? Is there a Chinatown there? Did u get to have renunion dinner with your family??
nah there's no chinatown here in rome... you can't get more homogeneous population than that of rome... the only officeworkers here are italians... if you see minorities they clean windows or work for some international organization like FAO... Rome aint the most socially advanced of cities...
Hey it was also a Korean new year, not just the Chinese... A great discovery in Nyack ...

as an englishman living in rome, i'm sad to say that i concur with pumpkin. it's a very singular culture. for a holiday, it's beautiful. as a place to live for a non-caucasian, i'd say you'd best have a good sense of humour.

Trust me, this is gonna be a good year!
First of all, you shouldn't be saying it in Cantonese as it is a minor dialect.
Gong Xi Fa Cai is the correct pinyin adaptation.
Plus, this isn't the primary thing you say to people at new year.
You should maybe, wish them Happy New Year first?
Anyway,
Thanks for the topic.
