Movie recommendation (soccer and/or Guy Ritchie fans take note...)
Just rented a movie earlier this evening called "Mean Machine". Think it's a 2001 British thing.
A comedy about a famous soccer player who gets sent to prison for 3 years for assaulting two police officers while on a drunken binge.
Long story short, he ends up putting together a team in prison to play the prison guards in a match (yeah, shade's of Stallone's "Victory" from years ago, right? Except this one is a lighter, British comedy).
If any of you saw "Snatch", simply take that style of filming, dialog and characters, throw them in a prison and introduce soccer into the mix. But it's got a bit of that simple, funny "Four Weddings..." vibe to it as well, with some of the writing and a couple of characters. Just really crisp, funny and watchable.
Sounds really weird and all, but honestly one of the better movies I've seen in a while...easily in all of 2002, with the exception of "The Two Towers".
Anyone else do this? Go to the video store and intentionally pick out something just going by the box, title, logo, etc.?
I do all the time and tonight it paid off.
"Mean Machine" - 2 thumbs up, four-and-a-half stars and five mice from yours truly.
Anyone else have any recommendations for other smaller, funkier "out-of-the-way" movies like this? Let 'er rip...
