Well, it would solve Apple's processor woes ...

Seems silly. IBM has tranformed itself into a software company with some computer sales (servers and mail order) bringing up the rear. I believe their consumer desktop is made by ??? - Dell? you know, the black monstrosity advertised on tv.

Why exactly would IBM be interested in buying Apple?

Apple has a much cuter logo than IBM.

In case anybody's forgotten, the two copanies were close to a merger way back in 93 or 94.

I for one would think this would benefit Apple enormously. With Apple and IBM as one company, they would truely build and control the OS and hardware.

Not to mention the opportunities of OS X to gain foothold in the world of business.

The story has such poor validity that not another single source has picked it up.

There was no near merger back in that time period... just talk on the street. Both parties denied it. Fridays are indeed slow news days sometimes.

    There's <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=10&t=000989#000020"; target="_blank">a thread about this</a> in General Discussion.
