Forever Young

There's a Saturn commercial playing a song called "Forever Young".

I did a search and came up with the following...

The song is by a group called Alphaville.

A sample of their <a href="http://www.alphaville.de/download/_files_audio/alphaville_mp3_snaal_for.mp3"; target="_blank">original version</a> is available online.

There's a website that has a <a href="http://www.iol.ie/~carrollm/av/covers.htm"; target="_blank">list of cover</a> songs done for 'Forever Young'.

And finally, if you go to <a href="http://www.amazon.com"; target="_blank">www.amazon.com</a> you can dig up a CD single of various dance versions OF the song done by the group Interactive (probably one of the versions used in the commercial).

I think this internet thing is going to catch on!

What came first their forever young? Or Bob Dylan's?

The Alphaville version was my prom song in 1988. They had another tune called Big in Japan. I love the internet for that shit.

And don't forget their third big hit (though I guess not in that order) 'Sounds like a melody'. That's some fullblown eighties nostalgia.

Its stuff like that and the cold war I hate the 80s for.

The 80s were bad bad BAD. Bad music, bad politics, simply bad taste.

Ah, hard to disagree, but we can't help when we grew up, the 80's "are the times we remember..." the music wasn't that bad once you get past pop-electronica that had infected everything, the arrangement, the lyrics, ah who'm I kidding... OK, they sucked, but at least they did "not last forever..."

I still feel nostalgia for Reagan and Atari2600, who can blame a kid?

edit: WFT? my spelling and grammar just keep getting worse.

I thought the 80's were bad till now. I mean in the 80's I could here bands like The Dead Kennedys, The Replacements, Husker Du and Black Flag on my local commercial rock radio station. That would never happen now in the days of Clear Channel domination. Bush is doing a pretty good job of making Reagan seem less evil. Corporations weren't as consolidated as they are now, I mean synergy was a new concept. I don't know, I might want the 80's back.

Music was great in the 80s. You just had to ignore Casey Kasem and Rick Dees' ideas of what was good music. Sort of like now with TRL, except the alternatives don't offer much either.

I never listened to any of the good music of the 80's in the 80's (too young) I discovered it later and it ends up feeling like part of the 90's for me, rather than the 80's, except for the pop40 stuff I was talkin about.

Yeah, you guys can take your Eminem and stuff him up your ass sideways....80's music is better than some of the dreck being churned out today to meet Clear Channel's exacting standards. Saying that 80's music was "bad taste" sounds like what WE said about 70's music in the 1980's.

Music is like religion or politics!

Nothing personal, but that song is arse.

There are probably a half a dozen versions of that song officially released by Dylan or the Band (or both) that are all better. Go buy Planet Waves and listen to the two version. Crap, I'll email you an MP3 of the version off of Biograph that's just gut wrenching.

    This version is just wretched.

Sorry, nothing personal. I like Dylan and I hate 80's music too.

the dylan song and the alphaville song are not the same, bunge.

i didn't like 80's video-synth-pop too much. but i really enjoyed hearing that song again, it has a meloncholia feel to it that i'm a sucker for. (i.e. drive-the cars)

as for planet waves, it always has been my favorite dylan album. and that forever young (1975) was excellent. i remember seeing it used during the credit roll for walter cronkite's 4th of july bicentenial show.

I was having trouble hearing at work, but the chorus was almost the same. I though it was just a reworked version. My bad.

    My point still stands though.

Music in the 80 sucked. Music now sucks, at least most of the mainstream. There was a window in early 90s where it didn´t.

Of course great music has been made to all times but seldom does it gain a critical mass that penetrates to the mainstream.

    The 80's were the best.

    Reagan rocked.

    Commies were destroyed.

Music was music, not masturbation to drums and bass.

    Liberals were obviously stupid.

    You 90's folks are sooooo wrong. <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[oyvey]" />
