Bin Laden, CAPTURED ! ... well, maybe...
A Pakistani deputy has told Iranian Radio that Bin Laden is in custody and that it will be announced in a week.
U.S. denies this entirely.
[quote] Pakistani politician Agha Murtaza Pooya, deputy head of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek, said he had told the Pashto language service of Iranian Radio that bin Laden was in custody but he did not know where he was being held.
"I just said he's in custody. I didn't say where he was captured or what," he told Reuters. "I said he's in custody. And in custody of those that are chasing him."
Pooya said he heard of bin Laden's arrest from credible sources "who I have reasons to believe have never given me wrong information."
He added he believed news of the arrest was being held back to coincide with the start of military action against Iraq.
"All I know is that one of the things under consideration is when the announcement should come -- it's supposed to be timed with the apprehended attack between the 17th and the 18th (of March)."

i don't know. the whole thing sounds kind of screw-ball to me.

Apparently we're close, but I don't know what that means. Supposedly this guy meant "he's in the custody of those who are chasing him." Kind of like the containment policy with regard to a single human being.
To be honest I'm more interested in this Khalid guy, we've got him in custody and I'd like to see more progress with him.
A bird in hand is worth two in the bush, they say.
Of course, there was the announcement by Pakistan that they had captured 2 of Bin Laden's sons but nothing ever came of that. But it would be great to finally capture him.
Despite the fact that some people say that "he's only one man", you can't deny that it would be a major victory in the War on Terror.
The morale boost for American troops and the American people would be huge.
I really hope we've got him.

It would be a major victory, because it will be a symbolic victory
The morale will be boost not only for americans, but for all the democratic world, and i hope too that we've got him : it's not an original thought, but a real one. Catch this bastard : afterall, he is responsible of all the diplomatic problems of nowdays. Without him, no 9/11, no economical crisis, no Iraq thing ... When i think of this it's incredible how this little bastard and his fellow have hurted the occidental world.

Sorry, but there's just no way a story this big gets sat on for a week. I'm very skeptical.

Who are you, and what have you done with Fran?
If they have captured Bin Laden and it's either in Afghanistan or Pakistan, they probably don't want to alert the media until he's out of the country or in a very secure location.

Here's a better question- What the heck are you talking about?
i think u.s. intelligence was real pissed that the pakistanis announced they had captured khalid shaikh mohammed.
i don't know how long they would have sat on it, but certainly longer than the pakistanis.

I was just playing around.
I know there's a good chance that all this current stuff coming out of Pakistan sounds like rumor, but I think the buzz is too loud/deep for this to be about nothing. There's something going on, but they're probably trying to keep it from us until they can run down some of the cells that they've just gotten info about. Makes sense to keep it hush-hush, I think.
With him caught, some of the louder UN anti-war nations will wail ever louder that the war should end, even though he's only one man.
With him caught, retaliatory terrorism, and demands of free binladen will follow an inevitable flow of hostage taking.
If they catch him the best thing to do would be to quitely continue the search for bin laden for a few weeks while they "interogate" him thoroughly, and perhaps keep on ice without letting anyone know, somewhere in a closet under NORAD, to avoid making a martyr of him. They can periodically dust him off when they need information, threaten his family (and make good on a couple just to make sure he understands they aren't just threats).
This guy is cruising for an unnatural level of torment, having him suffer it in secret would be the ultimate smack to his ego.
Where would you put him? I would understand catching him and not telling anyone...

Well, I can imagine them not wanting to tell anyone. They also didn't want anyone to know they had Khalid but that story got out anyway. If UBL is captured, I just don't see that story remaining a secret.
