Question for the real Geniuses....
i have some large video files that i need to back up but, the files are so large that they won't fit any media.
there are (2) files that are 2.08 gigs and (1) file that is 4.17 gig.
my hard drive is partitioned and i can copy from one partition to the other but that is it.
i need to either copy them to our network (to be copied to tape) or segmented to fit on to several CD's.
everytime i try to copy to our network, i get an error message "Sorry, but a disk related error (-1310) has prevented the operation from concluding".
if i try to stuff or segment the file, i get an error type -1310.
I really do appreciated your time and advice on this. I tried to use DropSegment....StuffIt Deluxe (6.5.1)...to segment the file.
the error message is the same in both instances "Sorry, but a disk related error (-1310) has prevented the operation from concluding".
the disk is fine (verified through Disk firstAid and Norton) and has been optimized. I can copy the file from one partition to the other and can even use Toast (5.0.2) to make a disk image but still can't segment or stuff the image file.
I tried to use Disk Copy but it won't make multiple images from a folder (or a single image for that matter) and returns an error saying the file is larger than 2 gig.
Am I to believe that the Mac is limited and can't handle files via Ethernet....SCSI....???? with all the graphic and video production firm that use Macs.... this kind of limit exists?!?!?!?!?!?!
I have had to fight to keep Macs in use here at the company that i work for and if i have to tell my IT director that my Mac can't copy or back up a file that is more than 2 gig.....I'm no novice and have been working on Macs for 6 years and have only recently been doing 3D modeling and animations so dealing with these extremly large files IS new to me.... and little did i think that my Mac.... which i praise and tout as being able to do anything thier Windows machines can, and most likely do it better....is about to be defeated.......
thanks again for your help.

What kind of MAc are you using?
You could use Stuffit to segment the files, but you'd probably be in for a long wait.
