DHCP Woes
Due to the recent bankruptcy of Excite@Home, I now have cable-modem service directly though AT&T Broadband Internet. This means that my old static IP address is no more and that I must use DHCP.
I run MacOS X 10.1, my cable modem connects through the Ethernet port, and I live in Livermore, CA; this might help in working out how repeatable my troubles are.
This has the difficulty that my network connection every now and then goes dead and that I must restart it. At first, I followed the recommendation of the ATTBI documentation and rebooted and switched the cable modem off and on again. I then found that all that was necessary was to switch the cable modem off and on again.
Has anyone written some convenient shell script or AppleScript or whatever for telling a cable modem to restart? Or is there some other fix that one can perform?

I think you should be looking to the root of your problem, not a work around:
Your modem should not be dropping you. Hold ATT's feet to the fire.
Also a better place for this type of info is the forums of DSL reports.
