PowerPod

Let's give this a whirl, people. Take all the different rumors and put them together and you get the: PowerPod.

It's the next digital hub device. What can it do? Well, it let's you take your ENTIRE iPhoto Library with you, wherever you go. It's the next logical step after the iPod, which let's you take your iTunes Library on the go.

And, with a pen-based interface, the PowerPod becomes a PDA, too. Plus it can play MP3s AND... it can play your iMovies. It becomes your all in one digital media player, allowing you to share all of your music, photos and movies with anyone, any time, wherever you are.

Plus, because of it's size, this will become the replacement for the 12 inch iBook.

We're talking color LCD, Toshiba 10 or 20GB hard drive and MacOS X with some kind of handwriting recognition layer.

Have I covered everything?

Right, Matsu. So calling something the next digital hub device is like calling it a "spoke" that connects to the "hub." Very clever. I like that.

It might be Cool, Hip and that but you got to ask yourself one question: Do I need it? Well do you punk?

How many times on the road have you suddenly had the urge to watch QuickTime movies? I bet that most people have a higher urge to watch TV or listen to radio when away from their computer. The iPod will sooner have those capabilities than playing iMovies (and showing iPhotos for that matter) and I don´t believe it will ever get those.

And think of the price. It will be too close to the iBook to be justified outside a very narrow crowd.

The iPod is a pod. It's functional as a spoke, but it's also possible for it to be a hub. And it shouldn't be limited to being a spoke when it can also be a hub. Its hub functionality is icing. It's not going to be a prerequirement for any other Apple devices.

I can't understand why Apple use a simple LCD B/W screen in the iPod when the Nintendo Gameboy uses state of the art colour screen??? After all you pay less than $100 for a Gameboy...

Obviously the battery in an iPod would have less life if the screen was colour - but I still think Apple could offer full colour and integration with Quicktime on this device...

    iPod - Colour LCD/10GBHD or 20GBHD/ QT6 iMPeg - iTunes player next...

What more information could a colour display give you? There you have the answer (and please don´t say "visualizations" )

For the same reason Apple haven´t got small "mail", "internet" and other POS buttons on their keyboards. Thats why people get it wrong when they say that Apple is form over function. They are form as function.

I'm not disagreeing with form as function - but it won't be long before the copycats come out with colour MP3 player double the HD size and $100 less than the iPod...

Let's get real - Apple make computers, software and now digital devices that are totally usable. The copycats make digital devices for profit - because they have a 95% market share and don't care about the user.

A colour screen has far more usability than B/W - Would you switch back to 256 colours or less to run mac OSX? The answer is no?

I've seen some great FULL COLOUR mobile phones - the usability of these phones is far superior to B/W LCD's - the material on the other end needs sorting out...

Apple need colour - not for visuals - but to make the user experience a friendly experience... SAID!

rotflmao! thats the funniest thing I have read in a long time. I don't think the phrases "state of the art" and "Gameboy Screen" should be allowed within 5 miles of each other.

Apple went with a quality greyscale screen because it was the best one for the job. If the gameboy screen was used folks would have to spend half their time twisting around to get the best light for reading their song list.
