Basic help needed

Hi There

my son going to college here in Ireland and I have to buy him a mac book pro.



would appreciate advice on the choices i am down to



Firstly a new one

13-inch: 2.3 GHz

2.3GHz dual-core

Intel Core i5

4GB 1333MHz

320GB 5400-rpm1

Intel HD Graphics 3000

cost 1120 euros or approx 1500 dollars



second choice is a refurbished mac book pro

Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.3GHz dual-core Intel i5Originally released February 2011

13.3-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen display, 1280-by-800 resolution

4GB (2 x 2GB) of 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM

320GB Serial ATA @ 5400 rpm

8x double-layer SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)

Intel HD Graphics 3000 with 384MB of DDR3 SDRAM





cost 979 euros.

Would welcome any thoughts as to which is the obvious buy.

    Aha, trick question. Those machines are both the same, except one is a refurb and the other not. The only difference with a refurb is it doesn't come in an original box but other than that, full warranty and like new.



    So yeah, go for the cheaper, refurb one. Be quick with refurbs though as they aren't permanent offers. Once the models on offer are gone, you could be waiting a while for one to show up again.
