Dangit! Again!

Alright,

This is my deal. I have two iMac's hooked up to a network hub. Along with my PowerBook running AirPort, which is also hooked up to the hub. All for the sake of DSL. However, everything there is working perfectly. Thank God.

My problem comes along after I "upgraded" to 10.1. Now, don't get me wrong. I love it. Mac OS X v10.1 is a GREAT start to Apple's next generation operating system. However, I have come to notice that a few of my most beloved features from Mac OS 9 are Gone With the Wind. (to say the least)

One of which is the ever-so-popular and ever-so-simple printer sharing control panel. Wipe that tear. Is it gone forever? Will we ever see it again? And most of all...is there anything to hold me over until we do see it reincarnated by Apple?

It's a big-time hassle having 3 computers and only one third of them are printable ones! I've seen a few things on here earlier about SAMBA and whatnot. To say the least, those kind of apps are WAY over my head. If anyone knows of anything even remotely close to Apple's Printer Share control panel but for Mac OS X, I would be sooooo greatly appreciative. Thanks so much everyone!

I've heard you can share a printer but you must load the driver on each machine. Does OS X support your printer? <img src="graemlins/embarrassed.gif" border="0" alt="[Embarrassed]" />

You are correct. USB printer sharing is missing on OS X. I've seen a few rumors that it will come back, but I wouldn't count on it real soon.

USB printer sharing will work in Classic. I haven't tried it where Classic hosts the printer. I frequently use the configuration where a computer running OS 9 hosts the printer and applications running in Classic can print to that printer.

Go to Apple's OS X feedback page and tell them this is important to you. The more people that do this the sooner it will return.
