Intel Sees The Future: Smaller Desktops, Unique Designs, Wireless Networking.. Duh?

February 28 - 14:20 ET: C|net takes a look at what changes might be made to the PC in the coming years, as Intel explains its vision at its Developer Forum. Among the items set to take hold next year are more compact and stylish case designs, as well built-in wireless networking -- features that Macs have touted for years. From the more technical standpoint, Intel expects 8x AGP slots, USB 2.0, and serial-ATA hard drives will be standard by the second-half of 2003. Meanwhile, a new high-speed interconnect standard, dubbed 3GIO, could debut in 2004, replacing PCI and AGP slots and ushering in the most significant change to the architecture of PCs in more than a decade. Innovation will come more slowly in the laptop arena, with a heavier focus placed on size, weight, and battery-life.
