Error -199

Dear All,

I have a mac 5400 running os 8.6 and getting error message -199 when receiving emails, though sending emails is unaffected.

Apparently error -199 means

-199\tmapReadErr\tMap inconsistent with operation.

which is no more enlightening than -199. Any help greatly appreciated. thank you. e <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

The problem is that the mapping information in the resource file is not internally consistent,most probably caused by a corrupt resource fork.The best thing to do is reinstall the software that is generating the error codes.Which mail program are you using?

I've seen this with Outlook Express. Upgrade to 5.0.3 if you haven't already.

Thanks for the advice. I'm using outlook express v4. Will check to see if v5.03 is compatible with os8.6 and upgrade accordingly. Thank you. In the meantime as a work around, could I not jet bin the oe preference file?

To use Microsoft Outlook Express 5, you need:

* Macintosh with a PowerPC processor

* Macintosh OS version 8.1 or later

* 6 MB of available RAM with Virtual Memory on (7 MB recommended)

* 15 MB of available hard disk space for Outlook Express

* Internet Software

- Open Transport 1.1.1 or higher

- For dial-up connections, OT PPP or similar PPP connection software (Control Panel) with PPP (extension)

Make sure you read the "Read Me"; there's some instructions there for preserving your user data.

You could try trashing your preferences first if you want, but my recollection is you need to reinstall the app for this.
