Under specs on the Cannon website it says special 4 pin conncector based on IEEE 1394.

    What does that mean?

Hi. I'm so excited! Finally a question I can answer!

I got the Canon ZR20 for Christmas. For starters, it rocks! Infinite amounts of fun with iMovie!

But anyway, in a word - yes, it does have firewire. There is a "DV-Out" Port on the front of the camera. You need to buy the "Firewire to DV" cable separately.

    Hope that helps!

IIRC, all FireWire-capable Macs come with an 8-pin to 4-pin FireWire cable. The 4-pin end is square-shaped and plugs into nearly any IEEE 1394 video camera on the market today. The other end, well, I'll let you guess.

Yes it does... I have the ZR-25 MC. Its been great--except for low light... low light situations is usually when all the fun happens... so knowning this I wish i had gotten a sony with a 0 LUX rating... but I digress. As for the cable, any 4pin-6pin connector will do. as a matter of fact, im 90% sure that one comes with every F/W mac since iMovie was introed... @ least it came with my and my brother's iMac...

That doesn't seem to be true any more.

None of the Apple computer list 6-pin to 4-pin cables. My Power Mac didn't come with one. applenut, did yours come with one?

My iMac DV SE from 2000 came with one, but I don't think any of the current models do...They list the cable as an option on the iMac tech specs page, for example...

I'm going to as this question in Current Hardware.

4-pin IEEE-1394 is the standard that digital camcorders have been using. It IS firewire, but doesn't allow for the massive throughput that 6-pin does. That's usually reserved for CD burners, hard drives, etc.

I believe the Superdrive iMac comes with a 6 to 4-pin Firewire cable, but we won't talk about the new iMac, okay?

I read on Apple's boards once, from an apple support person, that if apple has some firewire cables around they go in the box and people get a free one. If not then you buy your own. That's why some people get them and others don't.

sorry but that is incorrect. the extra two pins are for power and grounding. speed and throughput are exactly the same

Ya, my 450 DV SE came with one of those....Oh yeah, I am thinking about getting a Cannon ZR-** over the summer after I blow my money on a tower and Cinema Display....
