Misaligned desktop icons

After upgrading to OS 9.2.1 I have encountered the following problem.



Every once in a while when I boot up the computer, my desktop icons are scattered all over the screen.

It does not effect my hard drive and ram disk icons, just everything else.



My control panel tab, which I normally keep at the bottom of screen,

will show up halfway up the screen as well.

I tried zapping the PRAM and rebuilding the desktop with no luck.



As I sad, this does not happen all of the time, just a at random.



Anyone have any suggestions?

This may not be a problem with the computer. Does anyone else have access to it? Perhaps someone else is changing your monitor resolution...

No one else uses the computer.

definitely seems like a resolution problem. to be certain you could lower your resolution (cntl panels-&gt;monitors), and watch all the sh!t move. if it messes everything up like b4, then its definitely the prob. otherwise, i'm not sure.



to avoid it you could try to find what causes it, but even easier for desktop icons is just setting the desktop to auto-arrange. (dont remember how exactly, i'm on OS X) this'll keep them always in order, [always].



fixing tabs is a bit trickier. you actually have to discover the cause of the problem. it could be a program (game?), but that only makes sense if it crashes b4 you notice the problem. it could be some silly extension. you may wanna try to track it down with Conflict Catcher (ugh), or manually with Ex Manager.



if its not an extension/control panel conflict, then try to recreate the problem. next time it happens, try to rememebr what you did right b4 it happened. did u use any progs that take over the whole screen?



may i suggest upgrading to the lovely Mac OS X? it's grrrrreat.

I agree with Mr. Freak. Definitely sounds like the screen changed resolution. The tip off is that the control strip was relocated. Did you watch any movies full screen? It is not obvious but while displaying a movie full screen the resolution is knocked down to something like 640 x 480.



You should look into writing an Applescript to put your icons back where you like them.
