Rev.A iMac microphone drivers!?
I have a rev.a iMac running OS8.5, and my microphone does work. A program I have called 'SoundEdit? 16 v2' says that the mic doesnot have its drivers installed properly.
Can anybody please help me, this has been a problem for a good few months now, and I'm getting really ******* annoyed at this, as I cleanly installed my system a few months ago, and have repetively check my hard drive for problems, but to now avail.
Please help, any pointers will be greatly appreciated.

It's a free update.
Have you tested the Mic on another machine?
Have you (or someother user of your machine) been fiddling with extension sets in Extension Manager. Try using "8.5 base" or "8.5 all".
As for the extensions, I'll check them out, once more. However I do not see any specific drivers or extensions for the microphone, even on the software install disk. Can someone please tell the files that are relavant?? I haven't got a clue.

it's 35MB
or you can download 12 x 3MB segments.
Hope this helps.
Did you confirm that the problem is not with your Mic?
Did you try it with the base extensions as I recommended? What were the results?
What is the exact wording of the SoundEdit error?
Thanks for the link for the update, I'll do it when I have the chance but for now I can't update as my borther uses my iMac everyday for important stuff. This also means that I haven't been able to start up with the base set, but I'll be able to try it later.
Not saying this will solve your problem but have you considered updating to 8.6?

It's too bad that the iMac's mic is internal. Testing it on another machine would involve the use of a soldering iron and some broken plastic most likely
