Downloading QT Movies
When I try to play QT movies (not streaming) at work, from behind a firewall I get a broken QT icon.
How do I go about downloading QT movies without playing them first? Take for example the new iMac ad, when I go to http://www.apple.com/hardware/ads/imac_window.html I get the 'Click to Play' image but when I click it I get a broken QT icon. In order to download the move I need to find a link to the actual movie file itself but I can' find it in the source code.
I hope I'm making sense here and do hope someone can help me!
Cheers,

Can you give me an actual movie you want to download, rather than an example, which s impossible to help you with, and please, don't say it is an apple quicktime movie trailer.
edit: hrrmm. The URL is too long to copy into the reply. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

But this is exactly what I'm trying to download!!

"To find the movie in the source code, just do a simple search for ".mov" in an EMBED tag with the HREF parameter."
These files are only about 2k and not the actual movie.

PS Why the hell is UBB Code disabled in the Genius Bar??

OK, you're half of the way there. Now, open the file in your favorite text editor, and find the file name or URL of the version you want to download.
If you found an entire URL, download that.
If you found just a filename, you need to get the URL of the file you're digging in now, and use that file name instead. For example:
If the filename you found is "mygreatmovie.mov" then:
"......../blah/filethatis2kinsize.mov"
will become
"......./blah/mygreatmovie.mov"
Hope that helps

You should upgrade to QT Pro though, it has lots of benefits.

I plan on doing that, but not until I get my iMac. I'm a PC user, so I don't see much point in blowing $30 on QT Pro for Windows, when the Mac version is likely to offer the best experience.

<strong>Crap! I'm still having problems. The downloads seem to time out, or complete prematurely at 12-17%.

Yeah that happens a lot. Just have to reload the download unfortunately.

<strong>By the way, does the iMac (G4) come with QT Pro?</strong><hr></blockquote>
No, mine didn't anyway.
