Force Restart without a boot-button?
Ok this may be a stupid question....
On my old computer I pressed "Control-Command and the boot button" to do a force restart. Here the boot button was a little triangle thingy on the corner of the keyboard.
On my iMac, the keyboard does not have a boot-button. So I don't know how to do a force restart. (I only need this if I ever reboot into OS 9). The help said "Control-Command and the power button(at the back)"... but this shuts it down completely which I think is probably not healthy for the computer.
I bet I am missing something obvious....

cheers!
I believe you hold down the power button until you have a force restart, on the new LCD iMacs

Well that shuts it down(not a restart)..... I was looking for a three-finger salute.... because I was under the impression that is better for the machine than an improper shutdown.
Older systems that had a power key on the keyboard ran through ADB, which actually had a directly connection with the motherboard which would allow communication even if the machine was locked up. There isn't really a way to do this on USB based systems to the best of my knowledge...
At what point are you wanting to do this? If the box is frozen, forcing a reboot or just turning the thing off will yield the same effect. Might as well just pull the plug out the back too

A-ha. this was the answer I was looking for. I was under the impression that a three finger salute reboot was better for the machine than a powerdown. Thanks for clearing that up.
On newer machines that don't have little reset buttons (well, my G4 has them on the front) holding down the power button for a few seconds is the proper method.

Same applies to the Ti then, I guess.
