hello.

I would like to import my analog music into iTunes. I have iMic by Griffin, but that doesnt seem to be the right answer in converting analog into digital and have it recognized by iTunes as an import device.

I want to do this in OS X.

how to do?

thnx very much.

Go to VersionTracker for OS 9. Get a free program called Coaster. It is a great, free program for recording to your hard drive.

    1. Before launching open the sound panel, select the external USB input device. Play a tape and set the input record level.

    2. Launch Coaster, select stereo, 16 bits, 44kHz.

    3. Select an output folder.

    4. Select an output file creator code. You can select a QuickTime file for this.

    Now practice a little.

Turn on the tape. Just before the song starts press record. At the end press stop. I haven't tried it but you can also set it to automatically break up the recording between the songs.

When you have these recorded go to iTunes, in the preferences set the rate you want to encode at. Close the preferences then select the option to encode file.

This definitely works. I use Applescripts to automatically record music with Coaster while I am sleeping and later turn them into mp3s.

I have an iBook dual usb 500 and I've thought of the problem which there is no sound in jack. When I opened the computer's screen cover I noticed the wire going to the mic. Is it possible to hack the iBook and connect it somehow to the main sound/av outlet so that it functions as a multifunctional jack?

    Probably not but just curious

Probably not worth it. Griffin iMic is so cheap (about $35) why risk screwing up the iBook? Besides, the microphone is only monophonic.
