Can you use a 3rd party base station with airport cards?

in Genius Bar edited January 2014
My understanding was that this wasn't possible, but I'd be surprised if something compadible hasn't come out by now.

Thanks for helping!

Actually you've always be able to use a third party wireless station with AirPort. AirPort uses the international standard for wireless signals so you should have no problems once setup is done. You will need Apple's AirPort card, however, in most cases.

If the third-party base station is using WEP encryption you may need a hex translator like <a href=""; target="_blank">WEP Key Maker</a> to generate the correct password.
