iDVD Picture quality

Hi,



I've burned my fIrst DVD, as was a bit surprised at the result. If I compare the unedited movie direct to the TV from the camcorder, and then the DVD I made, there is a definite drop in picture quality.



I used iMovie to edit, and used export to iDVD as the export option.



Is this decrease in quality to be expected?



Any way to increase the bit rate (My 22 minute movie only used up around 1.8G)?
