Can you play VCDs in a Ti DVD drive?

Hi knowledgeable ones,



Does anybody know whether it is possible to play a VCD in a DVD drive on a TiBook?



I've been sick for the past few days and a friend gave me a VCD to watch. I was hoping to watch it in bed and the heat of the Ti could keep my legs warm ;-)



Any help appreciated.

    Should be able to..

    My old G4 500mhz w DVD-R drive can.

    Can't remember having to install extra software either.

    You'll have to watch it in OS 9. OS X doesn't yet recognize that disk format.



    Either use Quick Time directly or to make it super easy get Free VCD (version tracker OS 9).

    I booted into OS 9.2 - but it did not work.



    I launched QT also, but it would not recognise the VCD.



    I guess I'll just have to return it unwatched. :-(

    Try downloading MacVCD. They have OS8/9 and OSX versions.

    If the VCD doesn't mount in OS 9 that is another problem, maybe the disk is bad. In OS 9 you should be able to put the disk into the computer and have it mount onto the desktop. Once they navigate the folders till you see folders named something like MPGAV or Segments. Inside these you will see some large files about 300 to 400MB. Open these with QT. If you get the free program FreeVCD it does all this for you. I'm not familiar with MacVCD but probably does something similar, that is, faciliate feeding the correct files to QT.



    Just curious, there is only one disk? Whenever we buy movies on VCD they come with two CDs in the package.

    No - there were 2 VCD's ... I just used the term VCD to mean a video movie on VCD format as a complete package.





    Btw, the discs (both) worked in a stand alone VCD player. Both disks also mounted on the desktop. However, when navigating the folders, there were no "black" files to play... they were all greyed out.



    I might try to download FreeVCD next and give it a shot. MacVCD for OS X was unsuccessful in reading either of the VCD discs.
