extremely slow file transfer to WinXP box?

I used Dave as well as the standard "Connect to Server" command and typed in smb://servername.

Connects no problems.

BUT transfering a file (either upload or download) goes at max 15-20K/sec. Im through a 10mb/sec router and the XP box network card is set to Full Duplex and all that jazz.

I've connected to many other PCs in the same way and had full transfer rate.. This is the first time I connect to an XP box and first time I've had this kind of trouble.

Anyone know why this could be?

I wouldn't consider myself a mac expert, but perhaps it has something to do with incompatibilities between the Mac platform and NT/XP's NTFS file system..

    maybe?

You know, it's funny you mention that. I have an XP box here, and I usually connect to it via DAVE and I get transfer speeds in excess of 10MB/s (I'm on 100Base-T). I had to connect to the XP box again using a laptop in OS X that didn't have DAVE, so I typed in smb:// in the connect to and it went terribly slow just like you said. Only difference I guess is DAVE on my system still went faster

Hmmm, I seemed to have killed the XP Box ethernet card...

Muahahaha... slowly but surely Macs will kill them all.

Seriously though, the slow transfer continued no matter what.

We put a new card in and the slow transfers continue.

    Damn PCs

    Thanks for the suggestions though
