EIDE-SCSI converter info request
I did not see any reference to converters in this forum and was interested if anyone has used them and what experiences, good or bad, that they would share.
When I bought my CDRW drive last year I saw that it used an IDE-SCSI converter. I scrounged two EIDE Hardrives and bought converters for them too. However, the Western worked perfectly but the IBM occasionally would not mount. I switched converters and the problem stayed, so I know it was not the IODATA converter. I traded the IBM for another Western and no longer have the problem.
I am once again looking to get another Harddrive and since I cannot use Firewire with my older Mac systems and a 160G EIDE is a lot cheaper than SCSI I will be buying another converter.
That is unless someone knows of a Firewire-SCSI converter

What is the model of your computer?
Have you considered a ATA PCI card?
There are many, here is one I am looking at for my old 8550, only $45!:

Pair that with a cheap, 80GB drive, only $80 (after rebate)!:

Here's one for under $25:

Leave USB to SCSI well alone as it stinks big time.
Hope this helps.
I have two IIsi systems. The first one is max'd out with 6 Harddrives(2 120GB EIDE + 4 50GB) and the other has only 4 36GB drives. They are my file/print servers. Each system has a card slot in the back, but I don't think that it is PCI.
I appletalk to a Powerbook Wallstreet and an Emate.
I have Firewire, USB, and SCSI on the Powerbook, but that doesn't help on the servers.
Thanks for the advice.
<strong>Sorry for the confusion.

No it's NuBus.
IIsi, I can't believe it. Those things shipped with 40MB HD and you've got nearly half a terrabyte on one.
I don't think I can help you with this.
How does it work? You have a chain of external SCSI devices each one with a converted ATA drive inside?
And they are networked through AppleTalk? 10 BaseT?
I would have thought you'd reached the limit of what you could do with these systems a long time ago...
What OS are you running on these things?
