Got a good HD?

I need to add storage space for a (saga.. <img src="graemlins/oyvey.gif" border="0" alt="[No]" /> ) project on FCP. Can anyone recommend a good drive?

I want to go internal to avoid clutter and would rather stick with the IDE interface than go SCSI. There seem to be some good deals out there but I don't want to get stuck with a turkey.

Something fast & reliable, quiet & not too hot would be a start, perhaps about 80 -100GB.

I'm happy with the Western Digital Caviar drive I picked up last month. It's fast and reasonably quiet.

otherwise Maxtor has a liquid ball bearing series that's well priced and reliable.

i would just make sure to steer clear of IBM drives.

The Seagate Barracuda ATA IV series should be one of the quietest and coolset on the market. They only go up to 80 GB though.

I have a 100 GB WD Caviar installed in my G3 B&W. Runs great -- sustained read/write around 40 to 60 MB/sec. It's fairly quiet and seems pretty cool.

Check out <a href="http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/IDE/WD_100GB_8MB_cache/wd_100GB_8MB_vsIBM_75GXP.html"; target="_blank">Accelerate Your Mac</a> for more info on this drive.

P.S. I'd recommend avoiding IBM drives. I also have a Deskstar 75 GXP. It runs great until the drive is nearly full (&lt;5 GB free). Then it freezes up at random.

Thanks everyone... I've seen the Western Digital drives at good prices I think I'll try one of those.
