You might try to import the file into iTunes, and export it to AIFF there. If that dosn't work, you can try to download a trial copy of Media Cleaner. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

    Hope this works...

i've tried converting it in itunes before, and it wont do it. keep saying "unknown (-50) error."

will check out media cleaner though.

thanks. i just tried that. however, QT wont let me export it into any format except "hinted movie" (whatever that is) and even that isnt a useable audio file.

i still cant use it as an mp3 or as an imovie soundtrack.

if anyone needs to know, i got the .mpa files by extracting the audio from mpegs that i shot using a still picture digital camera that takes mpeg movies with sound.

sadly, it wont. maybe this one is not a regular mpg. it did say .mpa before. anyway, i was hoping someone would know of a really good program for converting these unusual files into mp3s or aiff.

The .mpa file format stands for MPEG Audio.

Try <a href="http://mac.tucows.rutgers.edu/preview/206590.html"; target="_blank">MPecker Drop Decoder</a>. It is an old utility to convert between audio file formats. It may be able to convert this one for you.

    If that one doesn't work, try <a href="http://www.spies.com/~franke/SoundApp/"; target="_blank">SoundApp</a>.

    Hope this helps,

    Darren

Sorry about that, I should have looked for the demo before I said that. Stupid of them not to have some kind of demo. I have an idea, though. If you post a link to the file, other people can try to help decode your file. Just a thought.

Darren, thanks. But here's what happened:

MPecker Drop Decoder said that my file isnt a quicktime file, and wont touch it.

SoundApp says, "Invalid number of channels."

Maybe I should complain to Sony? It is their product on which this was recorded.

it's ok. I can't put the file up on itools though. I could perhaps email it to someone who wants to give it a shot with a fancier audio program. I would seriously buy the program if i knew for a fact that it would do what I wanted it to do in this case.

    As a suggestion...

In QuickTime player, did you try the Export function (instead of Save)?

If you still have the original .mpg, would it be possible to export the sound from that as an mp3?
