I need some help (lots of it).

I have a PowerMac G4 400 (AGP) with the stock RagePro card. I also just bought the Studio Display 17" CRT refurbished. If my card doesn't have the correct connector what can I do (this is the monitor I want).

If I buy a GeForce2MX off of Ebay can I swwap the card and then use the monitor?

Please help!

You won't be able to upgrade to a video card that has an ADC port. The Apple Display Connector is the funny, but useful, "standard" Apple introduced at MacWorld Expo NY in the summer of 2000, that combines video signal, power, and usb into a single calbe.

Unfortuneately, there is no way to add this to a machine that doens't have it. The GeForce MX 2 will not work in your PowerMac. The PowerMac G4's that came out at Summer MacWorld NY 2000 have an extra little plug just north of the AGP slot. This little plug is for the ADC connection.

Without this little plug, an ADC enabled card simply won't function. But there is a work around.

If your Mac has a DVI port, like this:

Then you can buy Dr. Bott's DVIator for $150.

If you computer does not have a DVI port, then you'll need to upgrade your video card to one that does, and buy the DVIator. Dr. Bott actually offers a few bundles on their website, starting at $269. That includes a video card with DVI and the DVIator for use with ADC monitors like the 17" CRT.

    Check it out!

    ciao,
