DV passthrough to iMovie or FCP

I have a Sony Digital8 camera. It has the Analog inputs and does the Analog to Digital conversion. What I want to do is just pass through to the Mac, but once the camera is plugged into the Mac it takes over the controls. When this happens, the camera stops showing the analog signal. Is there a way on the Mac to stop this from happening, or does is this just the camera. It is a TRV310.



It is a pain to record one hour at a time to tape, then sit there for another hour while it transfers to the Mac.
