no video (maybe other problems)
i'm very new to working with the mac, so bear with me. a friend gave me a 7100 that he said quit working when he tried to install some extra ram.
when i turn the thing on, i get the startup chime, but there is no video at all...the hard drive spins up ok, and i think the other periphrials seem okay. i've read about resetting the pram, does this sound like it could be the solution?
on a side note, does anyone know how i can turn the darn thing off? one of the buttons on the front restarts the thing and the other does seemingly nothing...it seems all i can do is unplug it to turn it off.
grr.

anyhow, i trade erasing the vram by doing command+option+p+r but the thing went ahead and chimed anyways and never restarted as it is supposed to. again, no video at all...
i think maybe the keyboard isn't working. what would cause this?

as for the video, it may be that the video card is loose. i'm not very familiar with that model (7100), so it may not even have a pci video card it might b right on the mobo, or some daugher board. but if it does, then see that the card that the monitor plugs into is secured into the comp, and has a screw in it. you may also wanna chk the conn's on the monitor, and make sure they are secure.
and, as far as turning it off, again, i'm not familiar with the 7100, but i kno my blue+white g3 doesn't like to turn off unless everythign goes smooth. so, if there was a freeze or i tried turning it off during startup, it would refuse. if theres a reset btn, try hitting that, then quickly hitting the off btn. the only other option is really to pull the plug i think, if that odesn't work.
