Motorola Gallium Arsenide

It seems to me if GA can be successfully implemented for their semiconductor products,performance will substancially improve. In the long-run, I believe Apple can substancially benefit for utilizing this new technology. Currently MPC7455 * MPC 7445 utlizes Motorola copper wiring & SOI pioneered by IBM. Perhaps, the new G5 will include GA.

    This is very interesting but it sounds years away from coming to market. An interesting point from the article was that they might be able to just create little islands of GaAs material. Rather than trying to make the whole chip like that they could just use it to solve speed problems in selected areas. Of course, using GaAs has got to increase the price of the chip substantially.
