Such optimism is also giving chip companies an impetus to roll out a barrage of new products this year. Motorola, for one, plans to introduce 40 microcontrollers, 32-bit ColdFire and PowerPC processors and a four-core DSP this year.

    And so, hopefully a real turn-around begins, and this is not just more of MOT doing what they used to do: announce amazing chips and technologies that won't see the light of day for 2 years or more.
