Help - I think that my printer is dead!

Hi,

My printer, after not being used for a few months, refuses to work. I have an Epson 740, which being the first epson USB printer should be owned by loads of you out there. I have plugged it into my graphite iBook SE (DVD and FW), my rev/B iMac and myPowerbook 1400 via serial, and none of them recognise the printer. The printer seems fine when I switch it on, however, making all the normal noises.

The only thing that I can think of is that it is currently out of colour ink. Now, I'd think that it would still tell the computer that its out of ink. So, I ask you all, is it worth buying new ink carts just to try, or should I accept that it is dead?

Thanks for your help in advance,

David

I also have a 740 and the same thing happens to me. for some reason the computer won't see the printer if it is out of ink. It does not matter what color the ink is. If the printer is still good enough for you I would try replacing the cartridges. If it is not, look into the new epson's, they are really good, and inexpensive.
