step 3, select drive, and traverse menus to "format" option (can't remember which menu exactly).
step 4, depending on how large the drive is, it may take a while.
note: if the drive is corrupted, or maligned in some way, you may get a msg after pluggin it in that it is uninitialized and needs to be formattted. in that case you can skip those steps.
