    to be "protected/hidden"........

can you create your own proxy servers? or is it something that a 3rd party must do?

A proxy will boost your speed on pages you access a lot. It stored them on a local drive. However, they don't automatically update if a web page changes. Therefore if you access sites like AppleInsider, you will not get the current changes. (Like, the active list will remain the same) There are workarounds, like always.

For a proxy, you need a dedicated server. I read how to do it using Linux, but I forgot where I put the book. You may try to search Linux sites.

If i use the internet when MY computer is on, would that make it a "dedicated" server?

any GUI -like prog. to serve a proxy?

would the "automatically update" feature on most browsers update the content for you?
