Old Games and a G4 ...

Hi all,

Although I would love to play some old Mac games on my G4 I can't because of two issues and I ask for anyone to please help me with them:

#1 When I try to play, say, "The 11th Hour" (circa 1998) the animations play back so fast that it is irritating to watch. What used to heavily tax old PowerPC processors is no sweat for the G4 so although I never thought I would ask this question: How can I temporarily and safely slow my G4/450 (sawtooth) down? I tried putting the game CDs in a slower USB drive instead of the DVD-ROM drive and that helped a little but the game still runs far to fast to be any fun. Other games suffer the same fate.

#2 ALL MIDI playback on my G4 sounds HORRIBLE. No matter how old or new the files all have a very irritating "stuttering" sound that makes it impossible to listen to. I am using QT5 and even when I tried QT6(P) it was no better. Quicktime movies and MP3s play flawlessly with no speed problems whatsoever but MIDI is just unplayable. Anyone know why?

Thanks a lot!!

Um... there was a program I used to use called 'breaks' which was shareware. Try searching <a href="http://www.versiontracker.com"; target="_blank">www.versiontracker.com</a> or <a href="http://www.zdnet.com"; target="_blank">www.zdnet.com</a> for the phrase 'slow down'. It basically makes your processor jump rope (like at a million miles an hour) and that will cause it to 'run slower'. This worked for a couple older games for me. I'll see if I can find it and give you a link.

As for midi files? I know the why, but only have a vague guess at how to fix it. The quicktime musical instruments (the midi ones) have evoloved over time. Try finding a program which uses it's own codex etc. to play it back. Here is a link with a few of them from version tracker. <a href="http://www.versiontracker.com/mp/new_search.m?productDB=mac&mode=Quick&OS_Filter=Ma cOS&search=midi+player&x=11&y=1" target="_blank">http://www.versiontracker.com/mp/new_search.m?productDB=mac&mode=Quick&OS_Filter=Ma cOS&search=midi+player&x=11&y=1</a>

    Good luck!

Thanks for the help but I have had not luck finding it ... the only thing I found was a program that slows down MP3 file playback. If you (or anyone else) has an URL please post it!

    Thanks
