Cube owners; Have you had trouble with DVD firmware update?
Hiya, just installed a new HD in my Cube and did a clean install of OS9.2, Software update told me I needed the Imac/Cube firmware update (and authoring support and Carbonlib 1.6) so I duly installed it and rebooted. The firmware ran then said it didnt need to run, even though it was newer than the previous driver. So then when I rebooted my Cube would startup then freeze when it loaded the DVD driver, restarting a zapping the PRAM got me to the desktop but now the DVD drive is stuffed!! I cant play any CD's or DVD's, I can copy stuff off CD-ROM/R's but cant leave the disk in for very long as it seems to spin down after about 10 mins, which means I cant install OSX!!
Have any Cube/Slot loading iMac owners had this problem? How can I get back to the previous DVD firmware? Failing all else, where do I buy a new Cube DVD....

I've done all the updates, but I've not mucked around inside (see my new post).
Hope you get an answer. <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />

All I can suggest is an open firmware reset. Hold down CMD-OPT-O-F when starting up. You'll come to a text screen with a prompt. Type "reset-all" and hit enter. The machine will now reboot. Hope this helps.
OK, just thought of this: check the jumper on the hard drive you just installed. Perhaps it's not in the master position.
