P.O.'d by .pkg

I downloaded Quicktime 6 & iTunes 3 and each disk image contains the application in question with a visible .pkg extension; the problem is that they are treated as directories, i.e. they display a generic folder icon and show package contains when opened as opposed to launching. This has occurred before when I downloaded Mac GIMP, I have no idea what would be causing this.



Some help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe I have solved the problem by opening the pkg files with the Installer app.
